Imagine a world where

everyone can enjoy

good food together.

We want to make sure everyone has a seat at the table to enjoy good, nourishing food.

why we’re here

The problem: 1 in 7 people in the UK can’t afford to eat enough*.

7.3 million

adults struggled to eat
enough food in 2024.*

1/5

of the poorest households with children will have to spend at least 70% of their disposable income to afford the UK government-recommended healthy diet.*

10 million

adults & children are not getting the food they need.*

Hunger doesn’t just negatively affect our physical health, it has social & mental impacts too. Loneliness is a big problem. There’s a direct link between not getting enough food & feeling isolated from society**. Being able to enjoy a nourishing meal with other people is one way to tackle both the physical & mental impacts of hunger.

That’s why we’re on a mission to support organisations tackling hunger & loneliness by giving nourishing meals to communities who need them most.

we’re focusing on

community meals

From breakfast clubs, to kitchens feeding refugees, community meal groups don’t just offer emergency food. They treat their guests with dignity & respect, giving them an opportunity to sit down & enjoy a proper meal, at regular mealtimes, in the company of others.

As well as serving nutritious food in a sociable space, they can also help guests find practical support for things like healthcare, housing & money difficulties. We want to make sure these organisations are celebrated & supported, so they can keep helping others stay healthy, connected & invited to the table, regardless of income or status.

We support organisations offering consistent, nourishing & free community meals to people who need them most.

How we work

The organisations The Pip & Nut Foundation support will:

  • Offer free, nutritious & tasty meals.

  • Be based within a local community.

  • Encourage guests to socialise with each other & volunteers/organisers.

  • Be an asset to their neighbourhoods.

Our funding comes from Pip & Nut: 10% of their profits every year (with a minimum commitment pledge) are given to the Foundation. While we’re funded by Pip & Nut, we work independently - this includes deciding who we donate to. Our grants largely go to UK-based charities, but we’ll occasionally widen our reach to International Charities in special circumstances. Our Foundation is based in East London, which is why a portion of our grants will be allocated to local charities.

10% of their profits to us, The Pip & Nut Foundation.

We use those funds to make grants to organisations who are tackling hunger & loneliness.

Any questions?

  • Right now, we aren’t taking unsolicited applications for grants. If this changes, we’ll update you here.

  • We did a lot of research into the community meal space in the UK & spoke to experts to find out what activities make the biggest impact. We then invited some leading organisations to apply for funding. A committee assessed their applications against our funding criteria to make our decisions.

  • We’ve started measuring our impact by tracking the # of meals served using our grants. As we work by donating to other organisations, we’ll follow their lead on how they measure their own impact. For example, some partners will monitor increases in food security & improvements in feelings of loneliness by asking their guests through surveys. We’ll also hear stories about how the organisations have helped individuals so we can build a fuller picture of the impact of our funding.

  • We’re so pleased to hear you want to help us in our efforts. Right now, we don’t take donations to our fund, but if you’d like to make a difference we’d recommend donating directly to some of the charities we’ve worked with.

  • The Pip & Nut Foundation is a donor advised fund administered by CAF (Charities Aid Foundation - a UK Registered Charity number 268369)
